Pairings: 1x2x1, 3x4

Warnings: Yaoi, lemon, humor, angst um...I think that's all...OH YEAH! *slaps her forehead* Totally AU, and language (Duo can never swear enough)

Disclaimer: I don't own Gundam Wing, but you can try to sue me, but all you'll get is a cat with a half mask like Trowa (But, her name is Duo...)

Comments: The idea of the bar thing and what the bartenders do came from the movie Coyote Ugly, but with a little twist. Everything else is original (I hope). Um, the only G-boys name used in the story is Quatre's the rest have other names to go with the story. Dingo is Duo, Coyote is Heero, Hyena is Wu Fei, Jackel is Trowa. All the guys are pretty much in character, so you should be able to tell them apart. Hope you enjoy it! ^-^

Wolf Pack

Part 9

"Hey Blondie." Quatre stopped at the sound of the familiar voice. He turned and looked around. All he saw were trees and students walking. Was he imagining things? Shrugging, he started to turn, but suddenly a letter appeared on the side of a tree. "Got some first class mail here for you." The voice continued. Quatre walked over to the tree and accepted the letter. He looked down at Dingo. "Man, why does it have to be so bright in the afternoon?"

"Is this from. . .?"

"Yep." Dingo grinned and looked up at Quatre from behind his sunglasses. "He didn't stand you up last night Blondie. He just sort of ran into a little static." Dingo yawned in time to muffle the last few words.

"Is he okay? Did he get hurt somehow?" Quatre feared as he looked at the American for the answers.

"No. He's fine. I mean he's not lying unconscious somewhere or anything like that."

"What kind of 'static' did he run into?" The blonde kneeled next to the braided dancer.

"We'll just say that he got wolfed last night and well until further notice. . .he's sorta under monitoring." Dingo stood up and stretched.

"Did Wolf find out about. . ."

"No. As far as you're concerned Blondie, Wolf just sees you as a kid that passed out in his bar and didn't press charges." Dingo started walking off. "Maybe I'll be able to get another hour's sleep before work. Well, see you around buddy."

"Hey Dingo!" Quatre called and pushed himself to his feet. The retreating figure stopped and turned to face him.

"Yeah?"

"Any of you can quit the bar anytime you want, right?"

"Of course. We were hired at will, we can quit at will."

"So why wouldn't someone quit?" Dingo stared at him a moment, as if trying to understand the true question.
"We each stay for our own reasons." He started and walked back toward Quatre. "We don't want to quit because. . .well. . .it's fun." His grin widen.

"Fun?"

"Not all of us were born with silver spoons in our mouths. Maybe some of the things we do may seem wrong to you, but it's not to us. Are you talking about anyone in the pack, or just Jackal?"

"Jackal."

"Then just come out and ask then. Why beat around the bush? Jackal doesn't want to leave, because he's the only one of us that actually has attachments to the bar. I don't know what happened in Jackal's life. He never tells anyone anything any ways. I don't know how he and Wolf met, but I know that it was those two that built that bar. It was them that trained me, Coyote and Hyena in everything we know to keep the bar going. For that reason, I'm convinced that's why Hyena is still chasing after Jackal. But any ways."
"That doesn't make sense. Why not quit as a bartender, but continue as part owner then?" Dingo appeared confused. "If he helped build the bar then he should be part owner."

"Hey, being a bartender is a lot more fun than being part owner." A skeptical eyebrow was raised. "I don't know."

"Something's not right here." Quatre pondered. "What exactly is Wolf holding against you guys?"

"Nothing. Everything is free willed."

"Then what's he holding against Jackal?"

"Maybe it's the rules." Quatre looked up at Dingo.

"Which one?"

"That if you ever quit, there's no coming back."

"That's stupid. Who came up with these rules?" Dingo shrugged.

"I guess Wolf and Jackal. I can kinda see that one though, because it takes a while to properly train someone. If you know what I mean. And it's not like Wolf just pulls someone off the street and says 'here's a job for you. You start tomorrow.' He hand picked us, and we're the original members too."

"What are my chances of becoming a member?" Dingo laughed.

"None."

"What?"

"Look, like I said. Wolf doesn't want just anyone. He'd already be against you because of the fact that daddy's rich. Don't worry about becoming a wolf cub. We'll focus on getting Jackal to quit."

"We'll?"

"I don't like seeing friends suffer, okay. Is there anything wrong with that?"

"No. Of course not. It's just that how do you expect me to help? It's not like I can waltz in there and start talking to him."

"Waltz?"

"After all, you're the one that said he's under monitering."

"Waltz?"

"Don't you think that would look suspicious?"

"Waltz?. . .People still use that word?"

"Dingo. Can't you be serious?"

"I'm sorry. It's just that's the first time I heard someone use the word 'waltz' without talking about the dance." Quatre stared at him. "I never said he was actually being monitered. I said he's sorta being monitoring. Which means there are a few unguarded moments."

"When are those?"

"Well, right now, Wolf put him on vacation. Meaning that the only time he's at the Pack is to set up the bar in the afternoon and then clean it up at night."

"So the time in-between. . ."

"No, he'll be stuck somewhere else. It's during those times." It was Quatre's turn to be confused. "Maybe not the afternoon, but definitely at night. Wolf leaves every night at one. The bar closes at two and it usually takes all four of us a hour or so to clean up. However, he has to do it alone."

"Which means it'll take him at least a couple of hours." Dingo nodded. "How am I supposed to get in though?"

"Coyote is usually the last one out. I'm sure if I talked to him, he wouldn't notice if the door wasn't completely closed."

"Don't you have security cameras?"

"I've been in Wolf's office enough to know where each and everyone of them are placed. I could draw you a map and tell you exactly where to stand. That is, if you're willing to learn."

"Okay, let's say for instance, I got caught. Like maybe I step in the wrong place and get caught on camera? What's the worst that can happen?"

"Again with this 'worst thing'? Man, can't you ever just go for something without worrying about the 'what ifs'?"

"I want to make sure that Jackal won't suffer any more for something I do. It's not right for him to pay for my actions. Can't you just tell me?"

"The worst thing that can happen. . ." Quatre nodded. "Well if you do get caught you don't have to worry about Jackal."

"Why not?"

"Nothing will happen to Jackal. Wolf will kill you." Quatre stared at Dingo a moment, trying to decide if he had heard right.

"You're kidding, right?" Dingo shook his head.

"He maybe clue less right now. But if Wolf sees you in his bar, after hours with Jackal, he'll put two and two together. He already knows who you are since you passed out. If he finds out you're messing with one of his bartenders. . . .well, you get the picture. I guess you can say that we're kinda like one big protective family."

"Family? Sounds more like the mob. So in other words, it's hopeless."

"It's not hopeless. I think you can do this."

"If I get caught, then I'm dead. And then you and Coyote will be pulled into this."

"Hey, first off, I'm already part of this Quatre. Second, there's no way I'd let Coyote take blame."

"So even after Wolf was to kill me, you and Jackal would still be in trouble." Dingo grew silent for a moment. "Failed to tell me that. Didn't you."

"Well, if we're going to explore all the 'what ifs' why not look on the other side? What if you didn't get caught? Between the two of us, I don't think it would take much to talk Jackal into quitting. If he did, then the two of you would be together. No sneaking around. No secret meetings to bend the rules. No letters when you want to tell each other something. No one to stand between you and say 'no you can't', because you can. Isn't that what you want? To be with him? Isn't that why you came back? Why you cross dressed and cleaned out your account?" Quatre closed his eyes and cast his face downward. "Wouldn't this be a risk worth taking if it meant that?"

"What if Jackal doesn't want. . ."

"He does Quatre. He does want to be with you. He just doesn't know how badly he does yet. You have to help him. Help him realize that. I know you're probably the only one who can."

"I just don't want to hurt him in any way."

"I don't think you can hurt him. No matter how hard you try. I truly believe you love him too much to hurt him. The only pain you can possibly bring him, is the pain of loneliness by not being there. I should know. I went through the same exact thing with Coyote. It took me forever and a day to get Coyote to even look at me let alone talk to me. But you're already by that with Jackal. Don't give up. I know it'll be tough to break completely through that wall of his, but when you do it'll be worth it. I know Coyote was."
"How do you know that's how Jackal is?"

"Coyote and Jackal are so much alike, if I didn't know any better I could swear they were twins. But if you don't want to risk it, I guess I can understand. I guess I can't really blame you. But if you ever change your mind. . ." Dingo reached into Quatre's back pack and pulled out a pen. He took the envelope from Quatre and jotted a number on the back. "It's my pager number. Just put in a four so that I'll know it's you. Then I'll come and see you the following afternoon." He turned and walked toward the parking lot. "See you around buddy."

*******

Quatre,
I'm writing this to let you know that I'm sorry about last night. I really wanted to see you again, but I ran into some trouble at work. I assure you, that it has nothing to do with you. It deals with something that happened before you even came to the bar. It's too long and complicated to try and explain on paper. I hope you understand. I won't be able to see you for a while. I'm not exactly sure how long though. I know it may be a lot to ask, but I was wondering if maybe after everything blows over, we could pick up where we left off. I know it's selfish for me to ask you this, but I feel that I must.

Jackal

Quatre stared at the words until they no longer made sense. He traced the letters on the page with his index finger. What kind of trouble could Jackal have gotten into? Maybe it had something to do with Billie. Quatre reread the letter for the hundredth time since Dingo had given it to him that afternoon. His eyes skipped off the paper laying on his desk to the white envelope not too far from it. The seven digits were facing up, as if silently begging to be dialed.

Jackal wanted to continue seeing him. Maybe that's the trouble he ran into. Maybe Jackal was thinking about quitting and somehow Wolf found out. Maybe Wolf was trying to persuade him from leaving. After all, Dingo did say that it wouldn't take much to talk Jackal into quitting. A smile curved Quatre's lips as he dwelled on these thoughts. However, his thoughts were interrupted by a door closing. He looked up as Alex leaned against the door.

"Quatre, I think we need to talk." Alex started softly.

"So do I." Quatre quickly folded the letter and placed it in it's envelope. "I'm sorry I snapped at you earlier. I said something I didn't really mean."

"The part about giving yourself to Jackal, or the part where you said fuck me?"

"The second one. I guess it is partly your business what I do, since you're like a brother. I know you're only trying to look out for me."

"I just hate to see you hurting."

"I know Alex. I'm sorry I'm putting you through this, but I can't be sorry for the way I feel." Alex dropped his book bag to the floor and walked over to Quatre. He kneeled next to him and stared into his face.
"You feel that strongly about this guy?" Quatre nodded.

"I do. I wish I can help you understand that I do, but I get the feeling you don't want to."

"What's so special about him? You haven't even known him but what, three seconds?" Quatre sighed deeply.

"Remember back in sophomore year of high school, we had this friend named Shannon?" Alex nodded. "Remember how she always spoke about how in the beginning everyone was a whole person? And one day they were split in two, and the two halves were separated They were doomed to live as only half a person until they would one day find each other and become whole again. When they find each other they just know that they were meant to be one. Even if they never met before. . .they would just know. They could feel it. Everything would seem. . . .perfect."

"You never believed in that before Quatre." Alex commented. "You always said that it was only a myth."

"That was because I didn't believe then, until I actually experienced it. Now I'm sorry I criticized her so. I feel now that she was right, because I feel whole with Jackal." Alex exhaled loudly and stood. He turned and walked to his half of the room. Quatre watched him silently.

"So in other words, if I voice my disagreement to this, it wouldn't matter."

"Alex. . ."

"Is it possible you can be mistaken? Maybe Jackal isn't your soul mate, maybe he's just someone your lusting over."

"Alex!"

"That isn't a possibility Quatre?" He turned to face the Arab.

"I've been with others before. You know I have. Not one of them made me feel the way Jackal does, it's not lust. I told you before that even if I'm in a room full of people I still feel alone. When I'm with him, I'm not alone anymore."

"Do you feel lonely around me Quatre?" Quatre's eyes fell to the carpeted floor. It was the first time Alex ever questioned him about this. "Do you feel alone when you're with me?"

"Yes." The answer was barely a whisper. The room fell silent as Alex stared at his friend, jaw slightly dropped.

"Why?"

"I don't know."

"What do you mean you don't know?" Alex walked over to him and glared at the blonde.

"I don't know why I feel alone. I can't explain it."

"So you've kept this from me the whole time?"

"Please don't be angry with me."

"What have I done to make you feel like this?"

"You haven't done anything Alex."

"I've stuck by you in the times you needed me most. I was there for you when you couldn't turn to anyone else. I would sacrifice anything to make you happy Quatre."

"I know. Don't take it like that, please. I didn't want to hurt you."

"I love you Quatre." Tear-filled sapphires flew up in surprise. "I've loved you since the first time I saw you. But it seems all I've caused you is loneliness."

"That's not true."

"You just said that. . ."

"You didn't cause it."

"Then what caused it Quatre?"

"I don't know. I just know you didn't."

"And the only person who doesn't make you feel this way is a whore."

"Alex. . ."

"What are the chances that you'll get over him and return my love Quatre?"

"Don't do this."

"I want to know. After everything we've been through, you at least owe me that much. What are my chances?" Quatre grew silent. "I have to know if I have one at least."

"Alex, you're my best friend. I don't want to lose your friendship."

"Then answer my question Quatre." Quatre balled his fist tightly as he clamped his eyes shut.

"None." He whispered softly.

"Is there any way I can change that?" Alex asked after a short pause. Quatre shook his head.

"I don't care for you in that way."

"I see. You want to waste your time on a piece of shit that won't give a damn about you once he gets your ass." Quatre shuttered as the door was slammed shut.

"I'm sorry Alex. Please forgive me."
